The high light of Tuesday night was Sena tor Nixon’s speech over nation wide radio and television hookup explaining the $18,000 fund donat ed by friends for his expenses. He said none of it had been spent for personal gain, and that every thing was open and above board. The neutral observers say it was a great speech, and Governor Stevenson, the Democratic candi date, had no comment. Eisenhow er said Nixon is a brave man . . . Willard, Her - Continued on Back Page_ PAINTER INQUEST HELD TUESDAY NIGHT AT 7:30 Coroner Otis Dalton held an in quest into the death of Anthony Isaiah Painter, Polk County farm er, who was instantly killed on Monday, Sept. 15th about 1 a. m. The inquest was held at city hall in Tryon on Tuesday night. The coroner’s jury rendered a verdict that Mr. Painter “came to his death as the result of injur ies received from an automobile wreck at the hands of William Martin Bolt,” and that he be held for action of the Polk County Grand Jury. Polk County Coroner Otis Dal ton swore out a warrant before Justice Monte Dedman for Bolt charging him with “manslaughter” and bond was set at $1,500 for his appearance at the January. 1953 term of Superior Court. Prior to the warrant for man slaughter, W. R. Boyles, of the State Highway Patrol, who inves tigated the wreck, swore out two warrants before Justice Dedman for Bolt for “driving while drunk” and “driving without an opera tor’s license. Bonds in these two cases was set at $200 each. Bolt was released on bond Sun day afternoon. Coroner Dalton announced that an inquest into the death of Horace “Nub” Carry, who was found drowned Sunday morning in South Howard Street creek, would be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the city hall in Tryon. AM VETS MEET THURSDAY A regular meeting of AM.VETS will be held Thursday, Sept. 25th, at 7:30 p. m., in the Court House at Columbus.
